Valentine cards
I love you cardSome people like the unabashed, straight-forward "I love you" with hearts, roses and the bluebird of happiness. We signed up a new card designer last week with a colourful new range that has just arrived in the shop. This Valentine's card takes its inspiration from tattoos, folk art of canal barges and a hint of Victorian cut-out paper scraps. Same message, new clothes.

I've sometimes borrowed other people's words for my Valentine, searching books of poetry or the internet for a poem that sums up my feelings. The e. e. cummings quotation "i carry your heart with me (i carry it in my heart)" was a hit with my beloved many years ago so I was thrilled to see it featured on a greeting card. For the more traditional lover, you might want to "brush up your Shakespeare" and quote from Romeo and Juliet "I love thee with a love that shall not die; till the sun grows cold and the stars grow old."

If you're not the sort of romantic who wears their heart on their sleeve, you might pick the card that states baldly "You'll do". For this Valentine's day, we've got humour, we've got romance and we've got colour. But remember, you'll get the widest choice if you shop early for your Valentine's card. And your significant other is worth it.
